Will revocation of gold medal & public condemnation of Madhusudan Rao Naidu by Sai university, stop people from associating with Muddenahalli group?

Shri Rajinder Mehta had put up a question, "How it will benefit sssct or stop people visiting Muddenahalli?" on my Facebook post on my thought of revocation of gold medal awarded to Madhusudan Rao Naidu, I felt that my response to his question should be a post by itself and so this post.

I think we should first see the objective of Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning (Sai university) as publicly stated by its founder, Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba. Here are Bhagavan's words as put up in a section titled, "The Underlying Philosophy", on this web page of Sai university,

The Sai educational institutions have been established not merely to enable students to earn a living but to make them acquire good traits, lead ideal lives, and give them ethical, moral and spiritual strength. I have established them with a view to inculcate love and teach good qualities to students. They will learn here humility, discipline and faith.

I have established these institutions to impart spiritual education as a main component and worldly education as a secondary one. Education should enable one to cultivate good qualities, character and devotion. The teaching of the university curricula is only the means employed for the end, namely, spiritual uplift, self-discovery and social service through love and detachment.

This will be a Gurukula - a place where teachers and taught will grow together in love and wisdom - and like the ancient system of education, it will develop in its students a broad outlook and promote virtues and morals, which serve to foster noble ideals in society.

This Institute will be a temple of learning where youth are shaped into self-reliant, contented and enterprising heroes of action and self-sacrifice, for the purpose of serving humanity.

--- end Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba's words about Sai university's "Underlying Philosophy" ----

Bhagavan talks about spiritual uplift, ethical values, noble ideals and so on which he wanted his students to imbibe from the Sai university and then foster those values in society.

The emblem of the Sai university (which can be seen at the top left of the above mentioned webpage of the Sai university), has the motto in Sanskrit, Sathyam Vada Dharmam Chara. This motto is the ancient Santhana Dharma (Hindu) teaching, meaning, Speak the truth; Follow righteous living.

Now it is clear to unbiased persons WITH DISCRIMINATION who have studied the actions and words of Madhusudan Rao Naidu, the so called communicator of so called subtle body of Bhagavan based in Muddenahalli, that he, either fraudulently or under a delusion, is misguiding thousands of devotees of Sathya Sai Baba by claiming to be a medium/communicator of his, who can see and communicate with a subtle body of Bhagavan, which others cannot see and communicate with like he does (i.e. on a regular basis and for extended periods of time). Bhagavan has himself said on multiple occasions that he never uses mediums to communicate with his devotees, and that we Sai devotees should strongly oppose (within our Sai fraternity) people who claim to be mediums (or communicators).

So Madhusudan Rao Naidu is going against the teachings of Bhagavan Sathya Sai Baba by claiming to be a so called communicator, and is engaged in Asathyam (untruth) and Adharmam (unrighteousness). Further, from May 2014 onwards he has publicly made that claim, and traveled to many places in the world publicising that claim, and has misguided thousands of Sathya Sai devotees around the world.

What is the duty now of the administrators of the Sai university? In particular, what is the duty of the vice-chancellor, the key executive head of the university? Should he just keep silent in the face of this misguidance of thousands of Sathya Sai devotees by Madhusudan Rao Naidu, a MBA gold medalist alumnus of Sai university of which he (vice-chancellor) is the executive head?

From Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba's discourse on 11-10-1986,

Here is an example from the Mahabharata: Considering that war should be a great universal calamity, Dharmaja (the eldest of the Pandavas) appealed to Krishna to go as an ambassador of peace to the Kauravas. Entering the audience hall of Duryodhana, Krishna described at length the disastrous consequences of war. The great Acharyas--Bhishma, Drona, Kripa and Aswathama--- who were present in the court, were intently listening to Krishna's words. But Krishna's appeal was of no use to them. Because of their long association with the wicked Kauravas, they became abettors in the crimes of Duryodhana and others.

Vidura, who was a witness to the evil that was being committed, resolved to oppose it. He pleaded with the Kauravas in many ways to listen to the wise words of Krishna. His appeal fell on deaf ears. Rather than stay amongst such evil-minded persons, Vidura felt that it was better to go on a pilgrimage, and left the country immediately.

Bhishma, Drona and others, having been beneficiaries of the sustenance provided by the wicked Kauravas, chose to be loyal to them and stayed on. All of them were great preceptors. They knew well the distinction between righteousness and evil. They had enquired into the nature of the eternal and the permanent. Of what avail was all that knowledge? When it came to practising what they knew, all their knowledge was of no use. In the final outcome, all of them met with the same end in the great war as the evil-minded Kauravas.

Krishna looked upon those who, even if they were good in themselves, did not oppose unrighteousness and injustice committed in their presence when they had the capacity to do so, as actual participants in the crimes. When evil and injustice and violence are being perpetrated, if individuals look on unconcerned, they must be regarded as accomplices in the crimes. In the end they also suffer as much as the criminals. By their passive association, they provide encouragement to the evildoers.
--- end extract from Bhagavan's discourse ---

Given Bhagavan's words above from a public discourse, it is my considered view that the right thing for the vice-chancellor of Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning to do is to publicly condemn Madhusudan Rao Naidu's Asathya and Adharma actions of claiming to be a communicator of a so called subtle body of Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba. If possible, the gold medal given to Madhusudan Rao Naidu should also be revoked.

Such an action will send a clear signal to all alumni of the Sai university that the Sai university condemns any alumnus who goes against the teachings and instructions of Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba by claiming to be a medium/communicator of his. That may help in preventing more Sai university alumni claiming to be mediums and communicators. Further, most of Sathya Sai devotee fraternity holds the position of vice-chancellor of the Sai university in great regard, especially now that Bhagavan is not there in physical form, and so will give a lot of value to such public words of the sitting vice-chancellor. That may help in reducing the number of Sathya Sai devotees who get misguided by Madhusudan Rao Naidu.

Even if such a public condemnation of Madhusudan Rao Naidu by sitting vice-chancellor of the Sai university ends up having no impact in terms of reducing the number of people being misguided by Madhusudan Rao Naidu using the name of Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, the important thing, in my considered view, would be that the sitting vice-chancellor, if he makes the public condemnation of Madhusudan Rao Naidu (and his gold medal revocation, if possible), would have done his duty to Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, the founder-chancellor of the Sai university.

  1. Hi Sir,

Just wanted to share some of my thoughts on this issue.

Just to give a background about myself : I studied in the Sai school (2 years) and university (MSc - 5 years) and currently finishing my M.Tech elsewhere. In the 7 years of stay, 4 were before samadhi and 3 after samadhi and so ,I kind of have a balanced view of what happened during the transition.

I can see from your blogposts that you are depressed by the happenings at Muddenahalli. We can see now that with every passing day, the manpower and activities at Muddenahalli are growing.

Simply removing his degree or gold medal is just a cosmetic move without any real implications. It might get attention in the media for a few days ,but, will not stop what's going on.

If you want to put out a fire, all you need to do is remove oxygen. The oxygen in this case is the people that Madhusudan has managed to keep by his side. I can confidently say that many of the best people (administators, doctors, teachers) from parthi are now serving in Muddenahalli.

I personally know many of the faculty (from school and university) who left parthi and joined Muddenahalli. If one or two person's left parthi , we can say that they are under some illusion. But, from what I know, MANY teachers have left. The very same people who have been serving the ideals of Swami for these many years have left. Definitely, not ALL can be fooled. Definitely, the answer for them leaving is NOT the drama put up by Madhusudan Naidu.

One point that I'ld like to make based on my interactions with them is this : Most of them know that what's being done by Madhusudan Naidu is just a drama.I'm pretty sure Sri. N.Murthy knows this well. BUT, they still allow this to continue.

Then, what else could be the reason for them to leave ?

I believe one reason for this is that the administration in parthi is pathetic. They don't give the required facilities and independence to the faculty to implement their ideas. Prof. Sashidhar Prasad is a typical example. He had many ideas and couldn't implement any of them and was made to just work like a puppet. On the other hand, from what I've heard from people at Muddenahalli, the administration is far better and the faculty are happy to serve with Madhusudan's administration.

So, all I'm trying to say is that, if you manage to put up a good administration at parthi, people will not leave and you might limit the epidemic.

But, I'm sure that with the current set-up in parthi, they are sure to collapse soon if they don't take good care of their people. They tend to have a "use and throw" policy towards human resources.

I think if you talk to the current faculty, you'll realise that even they are completely stressed out with the system and will reach a breaking point very soon.

I'm open to your feedback about my opinions. Maybe they are a bit too harsh. But, from what I've seen I think it's pretty close to the reality.

    1. I have a very, very, very poor opinion of Sashidhara Prasad. He did immense damage to Bhagavan's educational mission by his arrogant and dictatorial behaviour as vice-chancellor of Sai university.

I do not have any issues with Muddenahalli educational service activities or medical service activities. It is an alternate Sai platform. Those who don't like Parthi and join there to do service may be happy there. Good for them.

What I am furious about is the MISGUIDANCE that the traitors Narasimhamurthy and Madhusudan Rao Naidu are giving to thousands of Sathya Sai devotees worldwide, using the name of Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba. Let them use their own names instead - Swami Narasimhamurthy and Swami Madhusudan and give their "discourses" and "interviews" using those names instead of Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba's name. Then my main criticism and anger against them will go away at least for the future (but not for the damage they have already done).

I don't want to comment about academic load on current faculty in SSSIHL as I am not associated with it anymore and so don't know the picture. But, in my view, there is a clear lack of spiritual leadership in SSSIHL perhaps due to overemphasis brought by Sashidhara Prasad and perhaps continued by the current VC on worldly academic knowledge (science, commerce etc.) with lessened emphasis on spirituality. Mind you, even in India there are universities with departments of philosophy and sometimes religion related departments. SSSIHL does not have any person publishing academic papers on spirituality & religion, as far as I know. That is a real tragedy, in my considered opinion.
