Finished reading Kamala Subramaniam's Srimad Bhagavatam (Bhagavat Purana) (1979)

Last updated on 31st March 2023 I started reading the lengthy book in Oct. 2022. See the posts: Procured Srimad Bhagavatam (Bhagavata Purana) book (in English) by Kamala Subramaniam; Srimad Bhagavatam online links, https://ravisiyer.blogspot.com/2022/10/procured-srimad-bhagavatam-bhagavata.html , 4 Oct. 2022 G.D.Birla wrote the foreword for Kamala Subramaniam's Srimad Bhagavatam (Bhagavat Purana) (1979); Birla industrial family have been patrons and supporters of Hindu religion, https://ravisiyer.blogspot.com/2022/10/gdbirla-wrote-foreword-for-kamala.html , 17 Oct. 2022 This Srimad Bhagavatam (in English) by Kamala Subramaniam book is a great one for English readers interested in such topics. The book does not provide verse-by-verse English translation and is a condensed version. But its coverage is still good (the book is around 800 pages) and I was happy to know some details which I had either not read in my earlier more-condensed Srimad Bhagavatam book (in English) readings or...

My meditation note today about Atma

Image
Last updated on 10th April 2023 The atma is: * the core of my being, * changeless,  * inseparable/undeniable/ever-present, * ever-peaceful, * eternal/deathless, * a spark/tiny part of Paramatma (Supreme Being/Almighty God), the creator, sustainer & destroyer of the universe. Footnotes: 1) I wrote a draft version of this note immediately after my meditation session today morning when I had an urge to jot it down. I have attached a picture of those jottings. Please excuse my scrawly handwriting. Note that I later improved upon the jottings before putting up this post. 2) This note is based on some experiences of mine and some beliefs based on Hindu scripture and teachings of some near-contemporary (20th and early 21st century) spiritual masters. 3) The words awareness or consciousness are implied in the phrase 'the core of my being' and so I did not want to mention them separately. 4) The atma is inseparable from 'me'.  Undeniable expresses the fact that I can never e...

My understanding of Ramana Maharshi's Hridaya is the core of one's being; My meditation practice resonates with statement about merging prana and mind into Hridaya

Today morning I came across a recent Facebook post of Dr. David Frawley on Ramana Maharshi's teachings and declarations in Upanishads about Hridaya and the heart:  https://www.facebook.com/drdavidfrawley/posts/pfbid02sLJUoa2WTaHHHpeshraNzcKb98uDAano1yfsntT1a6xv2awQauTTMxukGyY4scZKl . I shared the post and provided the following as my share-text in my post, https://www.facebook.com/ravi.s.iyer.7/posts/pfbid0Bsb2GiautcLEsh6qiMnJiCD6NCMctYFNCjLodpsnQ99zbQNpMJ4HPH9F9tmUyK1Zl : My understanding of this is that the (my) Hridaya is the core of one's (my) being. In my current meditation practice, I first make efforts to move from my usual mind-body state where I am actively/consciously using my mind and sometimes body too, to feeling the changeless and always-present (never absent, which I can never detach myself from) core of my being (atma). Then I focus on this core of my being (atma) and try to merge or dissolve into it. I think the shared post resonates with what I have mentione...

Why is Thuravoor Narayana Shastri not mentioned as eminent Sanskrit scholar and grammarian of 18th-19th century in current articles about past Kerala Sanskrit scholars?
