Religious faith provided one of the sources of FDR's (US President) unflagging optimism

"Religious faith provided one of the sources of FDR's unflagging optimism. Deep down he possessed serene confidence in the divine purpose of the universe. He was convinced that however bad things might be at the moment, they were bound to come out all right if he remained patient and put his faith in God." Source: FDR by Jean Edward Smith, Page 24
FDR is Franklin D. Roosevelt, USA President from 1933 to 1945.
Ravi: I am reminded of one of the main teachings of Shirdi Sai Baba (died in 1918), https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sai_Baba_of_Shirdi, to devotees that they should have Shraddha (faith) and Saburi (patience). I think the implication is that following them would ensure that devotees would have a good life (spiritually and perhaps materially too).
From the above wiki page ('He' is Shirdi Sai Baba), "He advised his devotees and followers to lead a moral life, help others, love every living being without any discrimination, and develop two important features of character: devotion (Shraddha) and patience (Saburi)."
There is so much in common in core aspects of religious faith across various religions and sects!

In response to part of a mail response from a correspondent that said that Roosevelt had an open affair with his secretary, I wrote:
Yes, it is well known that he had an affair with somebody who worked for him (perhaps his secretary). But even Jesus had compassion for such matters, didn't he?
His wife, Eleanor, accepted that (for whatever reason), and they continued to be married. Though I saw some video where it said that she wanted a divorce but FDR's mother talked her out of it.

In response to part of mail response that said it was Eleanor who was the optimist and the saint, I wrote:
I did see video clips showing her great work for race relations and helping the downtrodden (and helping war wounded). FDR was not a saint. He was President of USA at a time of great challenges for USA and then for the whole world (WW II). It is his role in WW II that makes him a star world leader for me as I think he played a crucial leadership role in eventual defeat of the Nazis and the Japanese imperialist powers, paving the way for a post World War II order that promoted democracy and freedom in many countries including India.
