Conversation with ChatGPT on: Who am I as per Vedanta; My related book

Last updated on 14 April 2025
Today I had an interesting conversation with ChatGPT on: Who am I as per Vedanta. Given that ChatGPT is quite popular now and is free to use, I guess that some persons wanting to know more about this topic may be, perhaps casually, asking ChatGPT this question. So I wanted to know how it would answer this vital question.

I was very happy to see that it answered the question quite well, IMHO (In My Humble Opinion). Further, it asked whether I would like to know about "a meditative or practical way to explore" it more deeply. On saying yes, I was very happy to see that the "simple yet powerful meditative practice" it suggested was also quite good, IMHO.

I later asked it about my related book without revealing that I was the author. It knew about it and presented some info. about it. I then revealed that I am the author and it responded in a very nice way.

The conversation was friendly and engaging. I find that aspect of it to be fascinating. I mean, I am very willing to have a conversation with it on some vital spiritual questions and see how it goes. If it goes well, perhaps I may learn some new (to me) aspects about these difficult and sometimes strange questions (e.g. Is there a soul and whether on death, the soul may take on a new body (reincarnation)?). It is the friendly and engaging tone that makes me willing to try that out.

Of course, as the chat page itself says, "ChatGPT can make mistakes." So one has to bear that in mind while engaging on such conversations with it. But that's fine. I can always check whether some new to me and interesting aspect ChatGPT provides, is corroborated by reputed sources of knowledge.

If you want to see the Vedanta related chat I had today with it, here's the chat link (publicly shared via ChatGPT itself; on opening page, it shows bottom part of chat and so one has to scroll up): https://chatgpt.com/share/67fa117b-0078-8013-81a0-d78a8b5b9521 .
Note that the PDF document link that I requested towards bottom of chat missed out lot of content and also did not have proper formatting like bold. But the above link seems to show the formatting correctly.

Later I selected the text of the chat from the browser window and printed to pdf, which did a reasonable job. I have shared that file on Google Drive: 20250412-ChatGPT-Vedanta_Conversation_Ravi_Iyer.pdf , https://drive.google.com/file/d/1sZF031zWgYQSs7Q_DYI96RA5JW9oIFFs/view?usp=drive_link .

Just in case some readers may want to know: I had the main chat with ChatGPT while being comfortably placed in an easy chair, using the ChatGPT Android app on my phone. But for putting up this post and sharing the chat link & pdf, I did it on my desktop PC.

Also put up on GitHub a simplified format copy of the chat which (copy) focuses on sharing the main text exchange and drops other stuff. The copy page: https://ravisiyer.github.io/WhoAmIVedantaSFChatGPT/ , associated repository:  https://github.com/ravisiyer/WhoAmIVedantaSFChatGPT .
