My comment on Facebook post of Mark Zuckerberg about the 14th birthday of Facebook
My comment on Facebook post of Mark Zuckerberg, https://www.facebook.com/zuck/posts/10104521556636051, dated 4th February 2018, about the 14th birthday of Facebook is as follows:
Mark Zuckerberg, I think you and your team have done a fantastic service to society by creating a free social media platform for people to interact. Yes, it does get misused by some people. But I think its benefits to people greatly outweigh the misuse by some people.
I am a former software consultant who is into spirituality and religion in general, and devotion to teachings and life example of Sri Sathya Sai Baba in particular. I became active on Facebook in 2014 within mainly this community of Sathya Sai devotees worldwide. I was amazed to see how much sharing of good happened within this Facebook network. There was some unpleasant stuff too related to warning people about a few who were misguiding others using the name of Sathya Sai. But even that unpleasant stuff helped the truth get out to people in the Sathya Sai community.
My first technical project involving computer networking was in 1985-86 when I was assigned to a Videotex project in Wang International Telecommunications Research Centre in Brussels, Belgium. From https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Videotex, "Videotex (or "interactive videotex") was one of the earliest implementations of an end-user information system. From the late 1970s to early 2010s, it was used to deliver information (usually pages of text) to a user in computer-like format, typically to be displayed on a television or a dumb terminal."
I worked on the application layer of the project dealing with what were then called as Videotex response pages which collected user input from remote Videotex users typically over a telephone line. I wrote programs in 'C' programming language on the Wang VS Operating System.
What a great distance hardware and software technology have traveled since then! Facebook networking is such a superb web based application that allows anybody who has access to an Internet connection, to interact with others anywhere in the world. Political leaders, spiritual group leaders, companies etc. use it to very conveniently, inexpensively and very quickly communicate with their followers/customers. Awesome application! Awesome service to society!
I pray to Almighty God to shower His Grace on all the people in Facebook company, and I thank all of them for this wonderful Facebook application.
