Ten years since I started regular blogging as free service in Sept. 2011; #HelpTen goal seems to have been achieved; Some blog stats and search ranking data

7 Jun. 2024: Some sensitive content has been snipped.
Note: The long blog post starts with an introduction and then is divided into summary and details sections. Readers could choose to go through only the intro. and summary sections and skip the later details sections. As this post is a long one, it was published as an in-progress post on 11th Sept. 2021 and got completed (no longer in-progress) on 17th Sept. 2021.
Introduction
I started regular blogging as a free service (Seva) activity ten years ago, in September 2011. I felt it appropriate to capture and share some blog stats, and a few remarks about this work. Further, I think this post may help some novice free service blogger/social media writer or some people who are considering to do this activity. So I decided to invest the time in gathering the data and then putting up this post.
My inspiration to take up this regular blogging activity was the teaching of my beloved and revered Gurudev, Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, of "Padi mandiki sahayamu cheyi" (in Telugu) which means "Help ten people" with ten being a figurative number indicating few people. I have heard Bhagavan say this in his discourses which I have heard live sitting in Sai Kulwant Hall. So I got this teaching directly from the source! #HelpTen
Given some health and other challenges that I face, I felt that I may be able to help a few (ten) people through my blogging, which later moved into Facebook as well, after which I called my work as social media writing. I think that over the past ten years (Sept. 2011 to Sept. 2021) pubic writing on social media has been my main activity though, at times, my public writing work would take a backseat to other private activities.
At the time I started the regular blogging activity, one well wisher questioned: "Who will read (your posts/writings)?" I think that was a fair and proper question to ask at that time. My primary motivation to write was to express myself on some topics that I had an urge to publicly express myself, and I was aware that typically only a niche audience would be interested in what I write. My life journey has been very much influenced by writings of others including spiritual writings but not limited to spiritual writings - I have been a voracious reader for most of my life. I wanted to give back to the world of writing - books, magazines, newspapers, Internet blogs and similar websites etc. - by sharing some of my views and thoughts. I also wanted to do it as a free service activity mainly on the public Internet so that anybody on the Internet could freely read my writings if he/she was interested. However, perhaps if nobody visited my blogs/Facebook, I would have lost the motivation to write on social media. I think I looked at "ten people" reading my writings as a kind of measure that would justify my social media writing work.
As the blog stats shared below show, I do think I have achieved the "ten people" readership goal in my writings.
Another well wisher mentioned that I will not get much support from any readers of my blog in my time of need. I think that too was a fair and proper point. Prior to my getting into regular blogging from Sept. 2011, my regular service work was in an ashram system from Jan. 2003 onwards where I was viewed as regular (free service) staff, even though my official designation varied with time. I should also mention that along with my blogging work, from Sept. 2011 to March 2012 I continued to do small amount of free service work for the ashram system. As I completely stopped my free service work with the ashram system in March 2012, I lost the ashram support system that I had enjoyed as (free service) "staff" since Jan. 2003. So from March 2012 onwards, I was leading a completely outside ashram system life with my primary activity being (free service) blogging. Given this background, the well wisher's point was very appropriate, and raised out of concern for my well being.
I took inspiration from the many spiritual aspirants India has had over millennia who led far more challenging lives than mine at that point. As an example, Ramana Maharshi ran away from home at a tender age and lived the life of a renunciate for many years and faced many challenges before he got recognized as a spiritual master and acquired a following. Note that Ramana Maharshi comes from the same Iyer community that I come from, due to which I am able to relate to Ramana Maharshi's family background quite well. In comparison to the great challenges that Ramana Maharshi had to face in the early years of his spiritual journey, after my retirement from commercial work in Aug. 2002, as a single (unmarried) spiritual aspirant, I was leading a fairly decent lower middle class Indian life on my retirement income.
Perhaps sometime in second half of 2012, I also read Mother Teresa's biography by Navin Chawla, which describes the challenges Mother Teresa faced when she quit the comfort zone/protected life of her convent in Kolkata (Calcutta) where she was a teacher, and took the plunge of serving the poor in Kolkata through a mission of her own. How Mother Teresa started her mission with very little money and catered to sick and very poor people, as described in Navin Chawla's book, was a big inspiration to me.
With this background, I had taken the plunge into blogging as a selfless free service and main activity. In particular, I had no expectation of any support from readers of my blogs. So that addressed the point raised by the well wisher mentioned above of not getting any support from readers of my blogs (or my Facebook posts).
Over these years as my social media writing work became more known among a small/niche community of interested people, I have received ***public*** appreciation and encouragement comments for this work from quite a few persons on my blogs and on Facebook. I thanked them at that time, and I take this opportunity to thank them again for their appreciation and encouragement for my social media writing work.
In the COVID pandemic, the volume of my social media writing work has come down.
I expect to be spending more time on some private activities in the coming years due to which I expect to spend less time on social media writing work.
Summary: Blog stats
I decided to share blog stats of all my blogs (6 in all) on this post, as this blog has turned out to be, as of now at least, my main blog.
Before I get into the blog stats, I should mention that I blogged very rarely prior to September 2011. I had put up 10 posts from 2007 to 2009 which were about devices I was using, and which posts were made under a pseudonym (Gabbar Singh).
Just before I launched into regular blogging, I put up a small post titled 'God is One' in August 2011 (only post in August 2011 and no posts earlier in 2011 or in 2010). The regular flow of blog posts started in September 2011.
I have used blogger and WordPress stats. These stats may not accurately reflect the number of people who viewed my posts, as these stats seem to include automated crawling of my blogs by programs. So actual human viewers would be lesser, in some cases significantly lesser, than that shown by these stats.
